Carol is the heart behind Burty Baker, and her love for baking began early — when her older sister taught her how to make her very first cake at the age of five. From that moment, the kitchen became her favourite place to learn, experiment, and create. As she grew up, her skills flourished, and baking became a thread woven throughout her school life, studies, and professional career.

Carol later moved into the hospitality world, gaining valuable experience running pubs, restaurants, and hotels. These roles sharpened her abilities, deepened her understanding of quality and service, and strengthened her passion for food. She then took that passion into education, inspiring children of all ages and helping them discover the joy of cooking for themselves.

Throughout her career, friends, colleagues, and family often turned to her for bakes — sometimes for simple treats like biscuits, pastries, or her legendary Christmas mince pies, and other times for stunning celebration cakes for wedding anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions. As demand grew, the idea for Burty Baker took shape.

In December 2012, after a thorough inspection, our home kitchen received a maximum Level 5 Food Hygiene rating, reflecting Carol’s meticulous standards and commitment to safe, high‑quality baking. Since then, Burty Baker has grown steadily, supplying local fêtes, food and craft fairs, individual customers, and local businesses — including those same legendary mince pies at Christmas and bespoke items for events throughout the year.
